The unicompartmental knee prosthesis design represents the end results of fundamental work : the femoral-tibial compartment is repalced in the most anatomic possible manner. Stresses are fully complied with and the relatively non-aggressive surgical operation prevents complete dislo-cation of the patella during fitting thanks to an appropriate instrumentation. Installation - Patient in supine position - Tourniquet at thigh base - Lower member held rectilinear, with 90° flexion, with the possibility of positioning it intermittently in full extension. The surgical approach Insertion in the knee is via an medial or lateral para- patellar or median incision. The patella is dislocated sideways and all peri-articular osteophytes are removed. The member is then extended and immobilized in a cor-rected position. Correction must put the knee in a neutral position, with slight 3 to 5° valgus. Hyper-correction must be avoided.
